Siddharth Katragadda is
acclaimed for his Abstract Portraits of Indian women. He was born in the
Bangalore, India, where he lived the first twenty three years of his life, and
currently lives in San Diego. He has been painting since he was ten. He
believes that an artist's primary objective should be to capture a culture –
and that a culture, or ethnicity, can be best understood through its women. He
paints colorful and elaborately dressed, voluptuous, dark Indian women,
paying equal attention to their omnipresent bindis and resplendent
ornaments as he does to their draped saris and brilliant blouses. His portraits
are as abstract as they are figurative. He tends to abstract away from facial
features, and lays more emphasis on the way a culture has sculpted the woman as
a whole, especially the colors, which are depicted in brightest of colors -
reds, saffrons and yellows – the most essential Indian colors. His paintings
have been featured at Chitra Kala Parishath, Kalarasa Gallery (Bangalore), Art
Walk (San Diego), IndianArtCollectors.com, Mixture ShowRoom (San Diego),
Paintings Etc (Singapore), Chlorophyll (Chandigarh) and IndianPainters.net. One
of his paintings was acquired by Mani Ratnam. His paintings are collected worldwide
